 “Designers Africa Fashion Up 2022”

On Friday, September 16, following an exceptional fashion show organized at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild in Paris, the jury of the Africa Fashion Up program named two joint winners among the five finalist designers: the young designer from - African Jacques Bam and Rwandan designer Muyishime Edi Patrick. Each was crowned “Designer Africa Fashion Up 2022”. Created on the initiative of Valérie Ka, top model
international, Africa Fashion Up is conceived as both a program and a fashion show whose aim is to accompany contemporary African fashion in full effervescence. This edition was supported by Balenciaga, Binance Charity, Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann, Sisley and HEC Paris, partners, and on the media side by Trace, Brut, France Médias Monde, Brune magazine and 35°Nord.


Following this great fashion show, the five winners of this 2022 edition will have the chance to benefit from personalized support for four months offered by Balenciaga and a training module delivered by the HEC Paris management school In the evening on Friday September 16, 2022, young South African designers Jacques Bam and Rwandan Muyishime Edi Patrick were each awarded the “Designer Africa Fashion Up 2022” prize, awarded by Balenciaga.

Jacques Bam and Muyishime Edi Patrick were able to convince the jury both by the quality of the pieces presented and by the strong markers of their style, their concept attentive to the notion of sustainability as well as their textured and colorful cuts.

 

The collections of the two big winners were presented during the parade alongside those of the other winners of this 2022 edition: Jean-Cédric Sow (Congo), Mina Binebine (Morocco) and Ibrahim Fernandez (Ivory Coast). Emmanuel Okoro, Designer Africa Fashion Up 2021 (Nigeria) and Clarisse Hieraix (France) also took part in the show as guest designers.


During their stay in Paris, the five winners took part in four days of immersion behind the scenes of fashion through a series of visits. The Balenciaga haute couture house opened its doors to these promising talents and its teams thus had the opportunity to give them masterclasses. The winners also set out to discover the major luxury houses Galeries Lafayette and Sisley and were received by the management teams. Additionally, Binance Charity interviewed the winners and streamed these interviews through its highly-followed social media accounts. Finally, the creators had the honor of speaking at a round table devoted to Luxury in Africa, organized by the Master in Marketing New Luxury and Art of Living at Sciences Po Paris.

Next step for all the winners of Africa Fashion Up 2022: they will follow a specialized training module in management delivered by the HEC Paris business school and benefit from personalized support from Balenciaga for four months as part of an extended mentorship program. In addition, the Leridon Collection is committed to African creation by including for the first time in its collection a selection of the outfits of the winners which will be exhibited throughout the world.

Clarisse Hieraix

 

Caribbean, Clarisse Hieraix was born in Marie-Galante in Guadeloupe, her parents settled in Paris, and throughout her childhood she discovered her passion for sewing. In 1999, she graduated from the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.


Seamstress and Artistic Director of her Fashion House based in Paris, she collaborates with brands such as Mme Grès, Mugler, Carven and launches her own line at the same time.


Today, Clarisse is surrounded by a qualified team, model makers, seamstresses, small hands with the know-how of the great Haute-Couture houses, able to satisfy a private and professional luxury clientele, sensitive to her modern signature. , imprint of refinement and discretion.


More than a style, her creations are the culmination of exceptional know-how and revolve around the Haute Couture, Wedding Dresses and Made-to-Measure collections which are designed and produced in her Couture House in Paris while the Prêt-à-Couture collections are sold to professional buyers internationally.
